The C1 drivers licence category allows a driver to handle and get behind the wheel of a vehicle that weighs up to 7.5 tonnes. Generally speaking, the majority of the NHS ambulances fall into this category and the drivers must be required to successfully pass a C1 training course. Without it, they are unable to drive an ambulance and may struggle to hold down a full time position with the NHS ambulance crew. It is not difficult to gain your C1 drivers licence.
