As an Official Partner, The Paint People is entitled to a number of privileges and promotional opportunities, including advertising displays at games, game sponsorships and ticket giveaways. “We are huge Raptors fans,” says Billy Petrovski, Creative Director at The Paint People. “When the Raptors 905 came to Mississauga, we saw it as a big opportunity to support local basketball and our hometown all at once.” Started in the fall of 2001, the NBA Development League, or D-League, is the National Basketball Association’s official minor league created with the intention for it to become a true minor-league farm system for every NBA franchise. The league started the 2016-17 season with 22 teams. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, owners of the Raptors, purchased the D-League franchise in the summer of 2015 and the team debuted at the start of the 2015-16 season. The team plays its home games at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre. Joining the Raptors 905 as Official Partners for the 2016-17 season, The Paint People have enjoyed several exciting promotional eventsto date, including “The Paint People Night” at the Air Canada Centre, which set a new record of 15,011 for Raptors 905 attendance. One of the more creative promotions is “Painting the Picture”, a scoreboard feature that regularly displays game stats at different times throughout every game. The company also uses the court-side tickets it gets for every game to run customer promotions. While the partnership is still new, the company has already enjoyed some positive promotional results, including increased traffic on their Facebook and Instagram social media channels, where they post imagesfrom the games and their promotions. The Raptors 905 Official Partnership is just the latest in a wide range of community involvement programs initiated by The Paint People over the years. Among others, the company offers internships to graduating interior design students, sponsorship for local children’s sports teams and support for Habitat for Humanity. “Giving a little something back is the least we can do”, says Billy Petrovski. “We want to support those who help make Mississauga a better place.
