It’s natural for expecting mothers to be concerned about unusual signs and symptoms their body expects during pregnancy. Some of these signs are quite serious and could be indications of gyn disorders in the Woodlands. If you experience any of these signs, seek medical attention immediately. • Is your baby kicking less than usual? Monitor your baby’s movement and activities by keeping a diary of ‘kick counts.’ Are they more active during certain times of the day? Keep off of your feet until you are able to meet them or make it to the hospital. • The persistent need to itch your arms, legs, torso or a general feeling of itchiness all over your body could be a sign of a serious allergic reaction to either food or medication. If you are unaware of any personal allergies, contact your doctor immediately. • Flu-like symptoms should not be taken lightly. The flu and other viruses like H1N1 could put the baby at risk. Call your doctor if you exhibit any of the following symptoms: fever, coughing, congestion, fatigue, body aches, or chills accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea. Avoid friends or family members who may be sick to avoid exposure and reduce your chances of contraction. • If you believe you have contracted a communicable disease like chickenpox or rubella, or if you are experiencing an illness after traveling abroad, contact your doctor with a list of your symptoms. Do not go to the doctor’s office or receive visitors at home until you are certain you are not contagious. This will reduce the spread of the disease to loved ones and the public. • Seek medical attention if you experience any symptoms of disorientation. These symptoms include dizziness, blurred vision, slurred speech, motion sickness, confusion, fainting, and severe headaches. • It is not uncommon for expecting mothers to feel anxious, however, inform your doctor if you are experiencing panic attacks or severe anxiety. Be honest with your significant other and close family or friends if you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby and seek help immediately.
