More and more Millennials and Gen Zs are entering the labour market - in fact, many analysts believe they will make up 50% of the workforce by 2050. For that reason, it's wise to adopt every measure possible to satisfy such workers’ needs. After all, it's not just recruiting these young people that you should be concerned with; it's keeping them, too. Here is how you can cultivate such workers’ talents to ease their progress.

The tech-savvy generations

Millennials and Gen Zs have grown up in a world dominated by smartphones, Facebook and Twitter. Unsurprisingly, then, many of them are very good with technology and social media. They also tend to live life in the fast lane - for example, they commonly have relatively short attention spans and are likelier to hop from one company to another. Previous generations might have been content to play the long game, so to speak, in their drive for success. However, Millennials and Gen Zs often have less patience, encouraged by their familiarity with technology and ready access to abundant information.Their interests can also change quickly, making it difficult for companies to keep up with them.

Be sure to empower and clearly communicate to your younger staff

These young workers tend to like transparency and seek frequent recognition of their contributions. Therefore, you should strip away tall hierarchies that hinder your company's attempts to see what is going on at the lower levels. This can ease communication between the leadership and its younger workers. Another tricky issue for companies is the control that many Millennials and Gen Zs like to have over their own destinies. In other words, they want to be their own bosses. To discourage these individuals from abandoning your company for one of their own, you can hand them more ownership and responsibility, which will give them the authority that they crave.
