My friend Mathew had his ancestral home in the country. When we were kids, it was our favorite place for adventure in summer. On such a summer holiday, venturing in the nooks and corners of this old house, we discovered a place that we had never seen before. It was the wine cellar of that house. The next day, Mathew’s father had taken us in the cellar to show what magical place it was. Since we were kids and never tasted the crisp fine wine, we didn’t understand the appeal of it. But, nevertheless, the charm of this ancient wine cellar blew our mind. Barrels of wine and bottles that dated back to late 18th century just mesmerized us completely. And after starting my career as an architect, when I got the assignment of restoring that wine cellar, I was even ecstatic. Apart from the flood of memories of my first visit in the wine cellar, now, I noticed one thing more during my site visit. Old wine and the environment of such a grand cellar in the basement of the house have their own stories to tell. Obviously, the modern homes in cities are deprived of that. So, if anyone is blessed with such a place in their home, then it will be a wise move for them to opt for wine cellar restoration. Remember, this will not only let you preserve your finest wine and help them age, but also increase the value of the house too. Obviously, they were not in the right state to bear the weight of the bottles. So for that, we opted for wooden sturdy racks. It not only complemented the vintage feel of the place, but was also a good choice. To create the right atmosphere for wine preservation and aging, adding a wine cellar cooling unit is necessary. Often basements are stuffy, not too cold or dry to provide the right atmosphere. The cooling unit takes care in such situations. Door The old door of the cellar was certainly not equipped to prevent the elements from outside in the room. So, I opted for a wooden door along with a wrought iron gate for the cellar. The result of this experiment was splendorous. The old ancient cellar looked like a young decked up custom wine room, but with the uncanny old world charm.
