Head off the Tourist Trail around Split and Dubrovnik

Travel & Tourism
Croatia is home to some of the best known and most loved spots for holidaymakers, so there’s no denying that it’s at the top of the list when it comes to planning adventures abroad. Yet there’s a whole side to this wonderful country that the average visitor misses out on. Even the cities that attract the most tourists, such as Split and Dubrovnik, have some hidden treasures waiting for you. All you have to do is stray off the beaten track!

Live Like a Local in Dubrovnik

In Croatia, holidays aren’t complete without breathtaking scenery. And what better way to take it all in than with a stroll along the coast? The Lapad Peninsula provides the best sea views in the area, enabling you to gaze all the way out to Gruz. Make sure you leave yourselves plenty of time to meander along the pathway and enjoy the magnificent scenery in all its glory.

Just 3km from the centre of Dubrovnik lies Park Orsula, which looks out over the stunning Old Town and provides the perfect picnic spot for enjoying the Croatian sunshine. In the summer months, you can catch an outdoor concert, or just sip a glass of wine and appreciate the beautiful backdrop of St. Ursula’s Church.

For those visiting Dubrovnik, Hotel Uvala provides the perfect base for relaxing after a full day of exploring. With indoor and outdoor pools, a terrace restaurant and luxury rooms, you’ll be fully refreshed for the next day of adventures.

Stay Off the Tourist Trail in Split

Follow a pretty hillside trail just a little distance away from Split, and you’ll find the lovely Marjan Hill. Immerse yourself in its history by exploring the Jewish cemetery on the eastern side, with some of the graves dating back to the eighteenth century, or by visiting the two charming churches. St. Nicholas was built in the 1200s, and St. Jerome in the 1400s. The latter also boasts a gorgeous Renaissance altar.

Go Back in Time in Trogir

Croatia holidays wouldn’t be complete without a day trip to one of the country’s walled cities. A day spent in Trogir will send you spiralling back in time as you wander along the medieval walls of this incredible island. The town’s World Heritage Status is well-deserved, which you’ll see when you come across its architectural wonders, which include St. Lawrence’s Cathedral. Spend a few hours admiring the Renaissance and Romanesque features before visiting the Museum of Sacred Art for another burst of Croatian culture.

No matter which city you visit, there is always a perfect hotel for you in Croatia. Holidays in and around Split go hand in hand with the magnificent Hotel Peristil. Though small in size, it is big in comfort and charm, boasting gorgeously furnished rooms and a fabulous location. And that’s exactly what you need after a day of exploring Croatia’s hidden gems!
