A triathlon is a multi-sport event combining three sports activities in one. It is a combination of swimming, running and cycling in one single event. Triathlon events are of various stages and for various people and the distance to be covered in each activity depends on the stage. Altogether, there are about five stages in which the triathlon activities can be divided. The Novice stage comprises swimming for less than 750 km, cycling for less than 20 km and running for less than 5 km. The highest is the Iron stage which comprises swimming for 3800 km, cycling for 180 km and running for 42 km. The most popular or standard stage is the Olympic stage which has swimming for 1500 km, cycling for 40 km and running for 10 km. But like most other sports events the most pertinent question for both men and women is what should the ideal triathlon clothing be. While there is no specific costume meant for triathlon events and no given rule for clothing, it is always advisable to wear clothing that aids performance and comfort throughout. In this respect, there are certain things to remember while choosing your triathlon clothing. Know the ways in which you can make the best choice of clothing for all triathlon events of any level. • Triathlon wetsuit- A triathlon wetsuit for both men and women look similar to swimming wetsuits. It is a specialized kind of clothing meant for all three legs of the events. Like all other wetsuits a triathlon suit provides insulation in case of cold water and maintains your buoyancy, aiding your performance. The only con side of this clothing is that it may be a bit expensive but if you are ready to spend the money you can be participating in any triathlon event, nationally or internationally, without the least bit of discomfort. Not only will you be absolutely at ease in the water while swimming but by the time you get ready to cycle, your suit will be dry and won’t hinder the cycling activity. You do not even have to change suits between the events and that saves time. However, it isn’t mandatory to purchase a triathlon wetsuit in order to participate in triathlon activities. In fact, it is not recommended at all for waters with warm temperature. Many athletes have performed time and again without such wetsuits and have had no problem. There are various other kinds of triathlon clothing that can be mixed and worn for the best combination. • Triathlon shorts- Instead of wetsuits you can invest your money in other items like triathlon shorts of great quality. Though they are less recommended for water since chlorine breaks the padding of the shorts, they are a great choice for biking and running. • Tri tops- The upper garment you choose to wear over your triathlon shorts varies from person to person. The most common combinations used by men are usually singlets or workout vests. These are good enough for both racing and cycling as they provide style, comfort and ease of movement at the same time. Women on the other hand are free to choose a swimsuit top or a sports bra throughout the event or sport a light workout jacket over the swimsuit top once the swimming part is over.
