The International Humanitarian Law is also known as the laws of the war and law of the armed conflict. The International Humanitarian Law is the branch of international law that governs the conduct of the war. It is applicable in the situations of the armed conflict and the occupation. International Humanitarian Law limits the consequences of the armed conflict. It does so by protecting the people who did not take part in the hostilities and restricting warfare methods available to the combatants. International Humanitarian Law comprises of a number of set rules that were established by the treaty and they seek to protect persons that are affected by the armed conflict. IHL includes Geneva convections and Hague conventions in addition to customary international law and case law. The IHL operates on the division between the applicable rules in the international armed conflict and the internal armed conflict. The relationship between the IHL and the International human right law is widely discussed among the scholars who are majoring in international law. In another version, pluralist scholars interpret international human right law being distinct from the IHL. International Humanitarian Law is a part of the public international law.
