When it comes to business, the world is a small place and travelling overseas is a huge part of modern-day life in many industries. Unsurprisingly, not every work traveller is the same, and this was recently highlighted by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA). The GBTA is the biggest professional association, representing the $1.4-trillion business travel industry in the world. It’s the leading source for helpful information, with over 9,000 members around the globe. According to the GBTA, there are five different types of business traveller – find out here which one you are! Passionate Hi-Tech This group will have an array of gadgets with them at all times, which enables them to stay in touch with people back home and maximise efficiency on the trip. Business travel insurance is particularly important for this group, as they will be carrying high-value items with them. This group also likes to extend the visit for personal reasons and make use of social media and online networks to meet up with friends or meet new people whilst overseas. Road Weary A group that is very easy to spot at the airport, the road wearies regularly make work-related trips, but have little enthusiasm for them (unlike Veterans and Passionate Hi-Tech). They see it not as an opportunity to explore new destinations, but instead consider it a hassle (although they do value meeting with people face-to-face). Wide-Eyed and Anxious Those that do not make trips for professional (or leisure) purposes will fall into this cate-gory. This group often worries, but meticulously plans their stays and always has busi-ness travel insurance in place. Albeit anxious, those who fall into this category like to make the most of the experience and will go out and discover the city when they’re not working. Keeping in close contact with loved ones at home is vital, so they also like technology and gadgets. Veterans Highly experienced with flying for work purposes, the veteran group have seen it all and know what they are doing. They will often have assistants with them and know exactly how to keep track of expenses and stay on track. They will not be happy with any kind of technical problems and expect everything to go according to plan. Keeping in touch with family is also a priority for experienced travellers. New Recruits New recruits are eager and like to plan their trip in advance, but they are often not par-ticularly well-equipped and their lack of experience can create problems (particularly when it comes to budgeting). New recruits regularly have longer stays than most, and will also have concerns regarding their carbon footprint. These are the five main groups, according to the GBTA. Understanding your own type can be helpful, as it can enable you to identify what your priorities are, what pushes your buttons and what can make you frustrated.
