The Best Educational Art Museums in Barcelona

Travel & Tourism
Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the most acclaimed cities when it comes to art, and it lends itself perfectly to art-focused school trips. There are a number of wonderful museums and here we recommend three that will give pupils on school trips to Barcelona the chance to indulge in an artistic experience that they will remember always.

The Picasso Museum

This excellent museum gives your students the chance to understand the young Picasso. Through the exhibitions that include more than 4,000 works, the relationship the artist had with Barcelona is revealed. It was one that developed in Picasso’s youth and continued until he died.

Groups of youngsters on school trips to Barcelona’s Picasso Museum are offered a special experience geared perfectly to foreign students. In the company of a guide they will be taken around and given the opportunity to appreciate the exhibits and discuss with peers their thoughts and impressions of the works they see. The guide will moderate discussions and offer relevant input as well as steer discussion in a way that deepens understanding. You will likely find that your students respond well to the enriching learning experience they are offered.

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA)

Designed by Richard Meier, this building houses a permanent collection of contemporary art that comprises of almost 6,000 works, as well as many temporary exhibitions. The collection emphasises relatively recent Catalan and Spanish art from 1945 and later. There is an incredible variety of pieces on show here and your students will have a hugely inspiring experience when they visit this incredible museum.

The Fundació Joan Miró

Miró himself created this magnificent place. Although it was set up initially with just his own works, he always had the desire to found a centre that would be at the focal point of contemporary art research. He also aspired to broadcast his collection and offer a scholarship to budding modern artists.

Today the museum exhibits Miró’s work alongside other contemporary art and offers academic programmes that give students on school trips to Barcelona the chance to delve deeper into the world of modern art.

With a view to educating students and helping them understand and appreciate the work of Miró and the other exhibitors, this museum offers lots of learning opportunities. It provides an extensive range of educational workshops and tours, and you are bound to find one that suits your student group.

Organising Any Upcoming School Trips to Barcelona

For anyone organising school trips to Barcelona, it is a good idea to book with an educational tour operator. Let the experts deal with the details and the logistics so that you can focus on getting your students and their parents excited for the educational, artistic adventure. This shouldn’t be too difficult when you consider the opportunity for learning that the special city of Barcelona offers.

Whether you’re hoping to introduce your students to classic artists such as Picasso or contemporary creators you may have never heard of before, Barcelona is the ideal place to bring your students for an artsy yet educational excursion.
