Off the Beaten Track Travel: Get Creative in Malta

Travel & Tourism
Whilst the Mediterranean island of Malta might be regarded as a great destination for sun, sand and sea, there are many more activities and attractions which are beginning to draw visitors from all over the world.

The capital, Valletta, is currently the European Capital of Culture. This programme has seen the restoration of many of Malta’s wonderful historic sites, whilst a number of high-profile restaurants and boutique hotels have also begun to appear. Valletta’s title is undoubtedly contributing to the island’s thriving cultural, culinary and historic scene.

The Catacombs of St. Paul and St. Agatha

Playing a huge role in the Christian heritage of Malta, the catacombs of St. Paula and St. Agatha are located in the town of Rabat. An enormous burial site believed to have over 1,000 corpses, the tombs will make for an undoubtedly fascinating start to your trip once you have arrived to the city via Malta airport transfer.

Once you have taken in the tombs, head to the site’s small museum, which has a number of ancient coins on display for visitors.

The Mnajdra Temple Complex

Perhaps one of the island’s more unknown attractions, the Mnajdra Temple Complex is a highlight for many who have visited. This is undoubtedly one of the island’s hidden gems, and is definitely worth taking the time to see.

Believed to be one of the world’s oldest religious sites, the Mnajdra Temple Complex is located on the southern port. Its solar temple become illuminated in the sunlight, with the structure positioned perfectly to catch this light.

The Mnajdra, interestingly, was also the venue for a number of ceremonial sacrifices, the history of which can be observed in the fossils and knives located there.

Exploring the Wied il-Ghasri Valley

Also known as the Ghasri Valley, this is an ideal place for the cycling enthusiast. Heading here for either a stroll during the evening or a bike ride is a great way to finish off your trip before heading off to the airport via Malta airport transfer.

After your cycle, why not go to the underwater caves for a relaxing dip in the cooling water? This is a particularly popular spot for scuba divers, too, due to the valley’s thriving sea life.

How to Get There

Booking a private Malta airport transfer to take you directly to your accommodation is not only a cost-effective way to travel, but will also get you to your front door without any hassle at all. This travel option is both convenient and budget-friendly, meaning you have more money to spend on all of these exciting activities in Malta!

Your Malta airport transfer will take you from the island’s only airport, Valletta, which you can reach from the UK in under three hours. London Gatwick, Heathrow and Manchester all fly to Malta, with a number of budget-friendly options available through airlines including easyJet and Ryanair.

For travellers who want a taste of Malta not everyone has a chance to sample, consider Valletta for creative and culture activities that will take you off the boring beaten track.
