It’s easy to watch a movie in your home on a fairly large screen, so why should you go to the movie theater? There’s something magical about sitting in the dark with just your drink and popcorn that you can’t get a home. Here are seven reasons you should make of point of watching the latest movies in theater. Social Togetherness It’s a special feeling when you’re watching a movie with strangers and you all laugh at the same time. Or you hear those around you suck in the breath when the movie gets suspenseful. When you go with your friends, you’re forced to communicate differently because you can’t talk. The Movie Experience Is Special If you’ve ever binged Netflix or just kept clicking on the next video on your social media feed, you understand the passivity of watching media. Going somewhere special makes you appreciate the experience even more. You pay attention better. It’s like an event rather than simply being on autopilot. The film experience should be different than just watching television. Surround Sound At-home speakers just can’t give you the same movie experience as those in the theater. It’s not just surround sound, but the decibel level. You can hear everything in the theater, even the slightest moves in the forest or the lowest asides. Movie-theater sound is awesome. You Have to Focus At home, you can stop the movie and take a break to go to the bathroom or just break the momentum. You can’t do that at the theater. The movie goes on. It’s a completely different experience. You lose control of the remote, which lets you become more immersed in the story. It’s a like a spell has been cast over you. Unplug from Electronics When you’re at home, even if you’re watching a movie, it’s hard not to look at your phone if it rings. The movie theater is one of the few places you have to put your electronics away. You can legitimately tell your boss (mom, boyfriend, kid…) that you couldn’t answer your phone when they called. If you feel as if you can’t unplug, go to the theater and find out that the world doesn’t stop when you can’t answer your phone. Previews Sure, the previews are ads, but they’re kind of special in their own right. Those previews get you into movie mode. You settle in and relax. Maybe you nudge your friend, “I want to see that.” It’s the anticipation of seeing the next movie that keeps you coming back to the theater. Getting Bragging Rights Who doesn’t love going to work and having water cooler talk by seeing the latest movie on the big screen? It’s kind of a special thing when you can talk about the newest Marvel movie without giving away spoilers. You’ll be in on the secret with others who went to the movie in theaters. Waiting for it to come out on DVD takes away the bragging rights. Someday, you’ll be able to tell your grandkid that you saw “The Avengers” or whatever new movie you want, on the big screen.
