The 10 things to do in Agadir

Travel & Tourism
If you are looking for a fabulous holiday under the Moroccan sun, head for Agadir. Located in the south of Morocco, this large seaside resort with a mild climate is more and more appreciated by all those in search of unforgettable memories as a couple, with family or friends. Old city of agriculture and fishing, it was completely rebuilt after the devastating earthquake in 1960. Agadir has become today the symbol of modernity in Morocco. Important economic center of the country, it is also its second tourist city. Its generous sun, its splendid and varied landscapes, its warm atmosphere and the wide range of activities that this city proposes promise you a busy holiday!

Wondering what to do in Agadir? It's this way !

1. The valley of paradise Paradise Valley, Agadir

Also called the green valley, this green setting is a real haven of peace. This is the perfect place for nature lovers and anyone who wants to get out of the city and change the beach. To take full advantage, you can opt for a day trip offered by the activity platforms.

2. The Souk el Had Souk El Had, Agadir

If you are going to visit Agadir, spending time in Souk is a must. The modern stamp of Souk el Had differentiates it a little from other Moroccan souks, but it remains nonetheless authentic! This treasure in the heart of the city gathers more than 3,000 shops on an area of ??11 hectares. You will discover here an authentic universe, alive, all in colors, where the scent of spices will enchant your senses. Undeniably one of the most pleasant and lively places in Agadir!

3. The museums of the city Municipal Museum of Agadir, Morocco

Because visiting Agadir is also synonymous with cultural discoveries, you will enjoy walking the most beautiful museums in the city. Specialized in the art of southern Morocco, the Bert Flint Municipal Museum, also called Tiskiwin Museum, will unveil a sublime collection of traditional Moroccan objects from the Saharan region and the Sousse valley. The Museum of Memory preserves the history of the terrible earthquake that devastated the city on February 29, 1960, all located in a beautiful oasis of greenery that reminds the gardens of the Alhambra in Granada. The Amazigh Heritage Museum, for its part, will seduce you with its sumptuous collections of jewels, talismans, carpets, porteries and other objects relating to the life of the Berbers.

4. The Kasbah The Kasbah of Agadir

This is where the city of Agadir was before the terrible earthquake. The Kasbah was a fortress, built in 1540, to protect the city from the onslaught of the Portuguese. The ruins of its ramparts and its entrance are the only remains of the architectural heritage of Agadir.

You will discover a truly majestic site perched at a height of 236m above sea level, offering an incredible view of the city and its ports. The climb lasts about twenty minutes while walking. At the end of the day, as the sun begins to set, the show is just breathtaking!

5. The Valley of the Birds Bird Valley, Agadir

Home to several unknown species of birds such as rheas and maidens numide, this animal park that leads to the seafront will immerse you in a beautiful exotic decor, among banana trees, magnolias and bougainvillea. During your visit, in addition to many birds, you will be able to see other representatives of the local fauna, such as the monkey magot or the bighorn sheep. Ideal for a nature break in the heart of the Moroccan city.

6. The Medina Polizzi Medina Polizzi, Agadir

If you are wondering what to do in Agadir, know that a passage to the medina, the old city, is essential. The experience is unique since the city's medina is recent, but it faithfully recreates all the characteristics of Moroccan medinas, winding alleys with effervescent souks. This is where you will find the souk El Had. This medina is the fruit of the imagination of the Italian artist Coco Polizzi. If you want to stock up on souvenirs, this is the place!

7. The Portuguese garden and Crocoparc Olhao Garden, Portuguese Garden, Agadir

The Portuguese garden, also called Olhao Garden, is a beautiful green area that originally commemorates the links between Morocco and Portugal, through the twinning of Agadir with the city of Olhao. It is here that you will find the Museum of the Memory of which we spoke to you a little higher. You will definitely enjoy this green space for relaxation.

For a more reptilian experience, go to the inevitable Crocoparc! With 300 Nile crocodiles and beautiful exotic and aquatic gardens, visiting the park promises rewarding memories for all ages.

8. The beaches of Agadir Beach Agadir

Considered one of the most beautiful in North Africa, with more than six kilometers of fine sand, Agadir Bay is ideal to enjoy the sun and palm trees. Whether you prefer tourist spots that offer various water activities such as jet ski sessions or windsurfing lessons, or wilderness, you'll be spoiled for choice! And for surfing fans, head for Taghazoute!

This is the surf spot of the region. A real treat for lovers of the wave and a good opportunity for beginners to learn the joys of the sport through the many schools.

9. The Massa desert Massa desert, Agadir

A true jewel of nature located in the region of Massa 60km from Agadir, the desert of Massa offers a breathtaking spectacle. There, majestic fauna and flora nestle in this natural reserve ... 33 800 hectares! From the Souss Massa National Park, to the Youssef Ben Tachfine water dam, to the dunes of the so-called "Petit Sahara": the region promises an immersive experience. To take full advantage, opt for the day tours that will allow you to enjoy the trip in due form.

10. Taroudant and the oasis of Tiout Oasis of Tiout, Taroudant, Agadir

Nicknamed "The little Marrakech", Taroudant preserves within it a heritage that it would be a shame not to discover during your stay in Agadir. The day trip is worth the trip and for good reason ... Surrounded by majestic ramparts, Taroudant contains many treasures. Between palms and olive trees, let yourself be charmed by its architecture and its narrow streets that will take you from its kasbah to the must of the Medina: the souks! Flourishing, they illustrate the true dynamics of the city. A charm to Berber connoted fabric, leather, silver and copper found mostly on the stalls.

Taroudant is also Tiout. Some 20 km from the city, the small village known for its hospitality contains a paradise oasis and a breathtaking view. It is also his land that gave Fernandel the reply in 1954 for the famous film "Ali Baba and the 40 thieves".
