We spend a good amount of money in order to color our hair the way we want. In spite of assurances from the hair styling salon, we invariably find that within weeks, the hair color starts to fade away. However the hair color does not have to fade away so quickly. Here are some tips to stretch the hair color and maintain a great look. - Stay away from hot showers: It is time to turn down the heat. Hot showers can make your skin rough and dry and at the same time they massacre your hair color. Hot water opens the cuticles of the hair and wash away the dye. You should shampoo and rinse your hair with water which is at room temperature. This will keep your hair looking and feeling nice and will also eliminate split ends.
- Do not wash frequently: If you shampoo your hair every day, it will wash away the hair color and take a toll on the natural oils as well. You need to opt for a dry shampoo that will the grease and the sweat, adding volume to your hair in the process as well.
- Avoid sulfate based shampoo on colored hair: When washing your hair go for gentle, sulfate free shampoos in order to make your streaked hair look fabulous. Sulfates contain salts that strip away the moisture and the color from your hair. Moisture loss happens to be the leading cause of color loss.
- Add a shower filter: If the water is hard, it will remove the dyes and natural oils very fast. A filter in place will remove mineral sediments which are the saboteurs that make brunettes stand brassy and fade the red hue. Shower filters will remove soapy build ups and cut out the heavy metals that mess with your hair color.
- Use Deep Conditioners for color treated hair: If you have color treated hair, deep conditioning with a conditioner that is specially formulated for colored hair is essential. Deep conditioning moisturizes and nourishes the hair, making it soft as well as shiny. For maximum benefits apply the conditioner to the base of your hair.
- Use jojoba oil: Jojoba oils resemble to natural oils produced by the hair and scalp. Add jojoba oil to the shampoo or apply it on your dry hair. The oil serves to moisturize dry and wet hair and helps to preserve color.
