Drives in Scotland You Simply Can't Miss

Automotive
Scotland boasts a magnificent landscape, from the mountainous backdrop to the scenic highlands and diverse wildlife, and a road trip is certainly the best way to explore all of these wonders.

After taking care of the first priority – renting a car – investing in car hire excess insurance is recommended as it keeps travellers covered during their trip and adds that extra bit of security. From there, all that’s left is to enjoy the trip, so here are a few of the essential routes to take along the way.

Edinburgh to St Andrews

For most visitors, an adventure in the capital is a must, and while a suggested drive through the city might seem bizarre, a short road trip to St Andrews promises just as many sights to see. Along the way, a drive across Forth Road Bridge will lead to the Fife, where you can explore the east coast.

Glasgow to Fort William

From Glasgow, take the A82 to reach Fort William – a route that will take you to the Scottish Highlands, with Loch Lomond and Glencoe situated right along the way.

Balloch and the Trossachs

Scotland’s diverse landscape is incomparable to much else, so an essential stop to make would be at the landmark lochs. Loch Lomond is the perfect place to start, and even after stopping off here, the loch will be visible for most of the drive. This route on the A82 will pass through the Arrochar Alps, leading to Crianlarich and Lochearnhead.

End the journey at Loch Katrine, where a ride on the Sir Walter Scott steamship promises an astounding view of the loch right from the middle of the waters.

Traigh Seilebost at Seilebost

On the Isle of Herris, Traigh Seilebost is located on the west coast. In this region, Luskentyre white-sand beaches extend across the landscape, with glistening crystal clear water. This offers the chance to take some time out of the car with the relaxing and undemanding hill-walking routes.

Glenelg to Skye

There are a number of routes to reach the Isle of Skye from Glenelg, one of which being the road bridge. However, for those seeking an opportunity to relish in the panoramic views, the Glenachulish turntable ferry is the way to go. After crossing the Kylerhea straits bringing you to Skye, some interesting wildlife might spring up including seals and otters – be sure to have your camera to hand!

Before You Go

Before starting off, organising transportation is essential for the smooth-running of the holiday. When renting a car, purchase car hire excess insurance to save the hassle of paying excess fees if anything should happen to the vehicle.

Car hire excess insurance makes sure you’re covered, but also keeps your mind at ease during the holiday, leaving you to enjoy your getaway comfortably.

The only way to take full advantage of a holiday in Scotland is to take a road trip, where you can surround yourself with the flora and fauna of the land. With all these routes planned for you, all that’s left to do is set off!
