Looking forward to your next ski holiday? Well, if you’ve chosen the fabulous resort of Val Thorens, in France’s Three Valleys, you certainly should be! As the highest resort in Europe, sitting at 2,300m, and with access to the entire 600km Three Valleys ski network, the opportunities on the slopes are nothing short of magnificent. In addition, when it comes to booking a catered chalet, Val Thorens has some absolutely superb choices for all budgets and group sizes. There’s no doubt that the resort has its skiing and accommodation aspects covered admirably, but it also shines in terms of other activities for those who may not want to ski all day, every day. You don’t have to stay indoors in your catered chalet, Val Thorens has a great selection of non skiing activities that visitors have at their disposal. Snake Gliss Strange name but great fun! Snake Gliss is an activity suitable for the entire family (kids over seven) and comprises ten sledges, which are tied together and then set off down the mountain like a very speedy, slithering snake. With an instructor at the helm, it’s a fun-filled 45-minute journey from the top of Funitel de Péclet. The snake runs from Monday to Friday at 5pm, and when you get to the bottom there’s even a bonus hot wine. Participants need to be physically fit and are required to wear a helmet. Dog Sledding Another favourite for families with children, dogsledding is a wonderful way to see the surrounding mountain landscape from a very different vantage. Participants climb aboard the sleds, which are led by a professional musher, and head off over the snow pulled by a team of beautiful dogs. Children from two years old can enjoy the fun with morning sessions running for about 30 minutes and covering an astounding amount of ground at a pretty cracking pace. Cosmojet No, it’s not an aircraft, it’s a toboggan. But it’s not just any toboggan run, it’s the longest one in Europe. Children from five years of age can enjoy a thrilling ride on the Cosmojet, which offers a 45-minute ride down the mountain from the foot of the Péclet glacier at 3,000m. It uses a marked out route, with twists, turns, bends and lifts, which all add to the fun and excitement. If you’re looking for the ultimate in fun, sign up for the evening run of the Cosmojet. Get a Buzz on the Bee This one is only suitable for kids over 14, but it’s an adventure you’ll never forget. The ‘Bee’ is a double zipline that runs all through the summer and winter, taking flyers over the fabulous terrain to get a birds-eye view and a pretty big thrill! Flying at a height of 65m, two- by-two, participants will whizz down the 1,800m length of the zipline: a guaranteed buzz on the Bee! The Ultimate High If the Bee isn’t quite high enough for you, don’t worry – you can soar with the eagles on a helicopter ride over the Three Valleys. You can choose between a shorter flight over the local area and the ultimate 45-minute joy ride over Mont Blanc to see the ‘roof of Europe’ up close and very personal. Up to five people can go on any one flight. Get Ready for Fun! These are just a few of the activities you can experience when you visit the resort for a holiday in a catered chalet. Val Thorens has guaranteed snow from November through to March, so it’s no surprise it’s so popular for a ski holiday.
