I’m sure nobody would’ve seen this coming. To see videogames covered by mainstream media. To see hundreds of thousands of people attend live gaming events worldwide. For videogames to be people’s full time career. To see a 16 year old win a huge tournament and become a multimillionaire overnight. Gaming has become a thing bigger than anyone would’ve ever imagined. In the past, I went to two live gaming events myself and let me tell you, the energy of the arena is very much like the energy you see in traditional sports events. Gaming is no longer just a stereotypical hobby of socially disconnected people, it’s a global multibillion dollar industry now. Even after doing a bit of my own research, it’s hard to say how it all started. But if I had to guess, the media exposure has something to do with it. Anything that gets covered by the media naturally gains a lot of attention and credibility. Take Shark Tank for example. The show has a viewership of over three million people with businesses pitching their products all the time. There were more than a handful of businesses that got turned down by the investors, yet they still became successful after getting huge exposure, which led to a surge of new business. The media can be a very powerful marketing tool for your business, which is why there’s a demand for media and publicity coaching products and services. Though as you’d probably expect by now, they have a hefty price tag. So if you need a small place to start, I suggest you try getting yourself booked on podcasts. It’s quite easy to do. In fact, sometimes it just takes one email pitch for you to get booked. Not only will this build your credibility, but it’ll expose you to an entirely new audience pool, and will get you quality potential customers and clients to your email list.
