It’s been a while since I lurked through marketing forums. |
Recently, I came across a post where a user asked for advice on increasing his open rates in his email marketing.
I skimmed through the responses and some of them were valid, in my opinion, like verifying your domain. As far as my knowledge goes, that’s the only thing on the tech side of email marketing that you have control over.
But I also thought some responses were a bit overly complicated.
Finding the best day and time to send them.
Split testing five different subject lines.
Or utilizing as much data on your audience as you possibly can like name, age, marital status, residence, social media activity, purchase history.
I don’t know about you, but that’s a bit too much unnecessary work for me. It sounds a little creepy too.
But it never ceases to amaze me that people always prefer to try to execute seven different tactics at once rather than focus on the one big thing that’ll automatically solve multiple problems.
What is that one big thing, you wonder?
Brace yourself, because you’re about to get some brand new, life-changing advice.
Here it is. The one big thing I’m talking about is…
Focus on writing better emails.
Think about it.
If you develop the skills to write emails that your subscribers will look forward to reading every time you send them, low open rates will no longer be a problem. If your emails are engaging enough, that’ll boost your deliverability.
Personally, I don’t bother with sending my emails at a specific time anymore. I send them whenever I can, as long as I get at least one out a day.
I don’t put too much effort into my subject lines either. Over time, once you build a solid relationship with your subscribers, they start to read your emails not because of an intriguing subject line you wrote, but simply because the emails are sent from you.
