La Plagne is a wonderful resort for a ski break. Perfectly located for excellent snow conditions and home to some fabulous accommodation, bars, restaurants and other facilities, it has everything you need for an amazing week away. But what if you’re a beginner and feeling a little daunted about what to expect? Your friends may have been before and are full of excitement about how they are going to spend their days exploring the mountain, tackling the black runs and enjoying the snow parks, while you, on the other hand, can barely even consider putting on a ski boot! Don’t worry, La Plagne is a great resort for beginners and here’s why… The Slopes Many of the slopes in this resort are wide and gently sloping, which is why it has a reputation as a great spot for those who are just learning. There is a huge nursery slope area that’s perfect for beginners and no matter which of the nine La Plagne villages you choose to stay in for your ski break, each one has its own area for learners. Wide slopes with sweeping turns are ideal for anyone wanting to practice their technique and build confidence. Once you feel more able, you can head out on the green and blue runs that, while still very much geared to the beginner, offer a little more of a challenge. The Ski Schools The number of reputable ski schools in this resort is huge and the company you book your ski break with will be able to help you organise your lessons as well. Lessons are an excellent way to improve no matter what level you’re at, and with most instructors speaking excellent English, you will find yourself picking up tips and growing in confidence by the minute. Top Tips for Beginners If you’re a true newbie when it comes to skiing, and are not planning to go too far on your week away, then you should bear in mind that purchasing a lift pass may not be necessary. The nursery slopes and lifts surrounding them are free of charge. Alternatively the ‘Cool Ski’ pass is an option that you can purchase on a day to day basis, depending on how you feel your skiing is going. This pass offers access to all of the beginner areas surrounding La Plagne. If you do want to have a go at some trickier slopes, you have the option of buying a full pass that covers you for four hours. This saves you buying one for the whole week that you may only use for an afternoon on your last day when you have built up confidence. The organisation of equipment hire can be done by the company you book your trip with and it is a good idea to sort this out before you arrive. Beginner skis are slightly shorter than more advanced ones and you need to make sure these are available. Particularly for beginners, having everything ready to go before you arrive takes a lot of the stress out of the trip. Once you’re all booked, you can look forward to a memorable and hassle free ski break in La Plagne.
