LASIK Surgery in India

LASIK surgery is one of the common surgeries which work on the principle of reshaping the cornea (front part of the eye) that in turn focuses the light on the retina (inner part of the eye) resulting in improvement or correction in the vision of the eye. Diverse types of LASIK surgery.

LASIK surgery is generally classified into three types according to the degree of damage and impaired vision and the type of technique and equipment used. They are:

• LASIK without bladder: This is a bladder-free method to create the corneal flap. • LASIK guided by typography: This is a personalized LASIK treatment where the treatment is provided by combining corneal mapping and conventional refractive measurements.

• LASIK wavefront optimization: It includes a 3-D map of the cornea with detailed attributes using an infrared laser beam. This type of processing is also personalized. LASIK is based solely on optical fingerprints. The LASIK process includes

Pre—Operative Phase • The surgeon examines the patient through a series of tests. These tests assist surgeons in identifying the correct patient for LASIK surgery.

• In the examination phase, the ocular surface is tested for any risk of dryness after LASIK. An automated instrument known as a corneal topographer develops a 3D point-to-point mapping of the cornea. The best LASIK outcome is a result of Wavefront analysis. • The LASIK surgery outcome can be altered by the use of contact lenses. The surgeon, therefore, recommends that patients avoid the use of contact lenses in advance before several weeks of surgery.

Operative Phase

Steps in LASIK surgery include

Step 1) The surgeon constructs a thin circular fold with a diameter of 6mm and a thickness of 150 microns. The surgeon will use a sharp device like a microkeratome or laser keratome. The surgeon will hold the circular fold exposing the central part of the cornea referred to as the stroma.

Step 2) The surgeon reshapes the corneal stroma using an ultraviolet beam of an excimer laser that removes a minute amount of tissue from the cornea and reshapes the cornea without any pain for better accuracy and focus the light on the retina resulting in an improved vision of the person. Step 3) The surgeon completes the corneal remodeling and replaces the flap with no stitches or interventions. Post—Operative Phase • The surgeon will have the patient rested shortly after the procedure. The patient can experience a burning sensation or itching immediately following the surgical process. • The patient can return home following surgery when the surgeon performs detailed examinations. • The patient should follow the directions and avoid rubbing their eyes and receiving medication. • A return visit is scheduled with the ophthalmologist or surgeon the day after the operation. • The patient must consult the physician concerned before resuming work or using the computer, • The patient should avoid lifting heavy weights, engaging in physical and external activities, and reducing neck movements for at least one week.
