It’s a situation that’s likely to fill you with dread: you’ve arrived on holiday and only now realise that you’ve forgotten something in your packing and you can’t figure out how you’ll carry on with the holiday without this very important item. If you’re going on a river cruise in Italy, you want to make sure this doesn’t happen - but remembering what to pack can be easier said than done. Now, it’s true that a river cruise in Italy would be fantastic even if you did forget a few things, but why risk that additional headache? Below are some of the things that you shouldn’t leave out of your suitcase if you want to get the very best experience on the waterways. Warm Clothes It might seem a bit counterintuitive: sweatshirts and jumpers aren’t what we’d usually associate with the glorious sunshine of the Italian countryside. But precisely because it can get so warm and air conditioning is likely to be in use in certain places is a good reason to bring a warm outer layer. It’s also handy if there happens to be a downpour when you’re off on a walk. Power/Plug Adaptors Your vessel will be fitted with plugs in the European style, so if you’re travelling from a country outside of Europe remember to bring an adaptor that allows you to charge your phone and camera so you don’t miss out on capturing the scenery. If there’s room in your suitcase, a multi-plug adaptor can also be useful (as the boats on a river cruise in Italy sometimes may only have one or two outlets). A Smaller Bag It’s a good idea to bring along a small bag for excursions while on your river cruise. In Italy you’re never far from a good souvenir shop and having somewhere to store it can be very useful indeed. Casual Clothes It’s not likely that you’ll have any ‘formal’ dinners while on board the boat, so bringing full-on evening dinner attire is not going to be necessary unless you plan on taking in a fancy meal out in one of the towns you pass. Casual or smart casual will be perfect for most dining situations. Footwear Although a river cruise in Italy is likely to be spent luxuriating on the rivers and canals of this beautiful country, you’ll almost definitely want to step onto dry land a few times. The towns and villages of the various regions showcase some of the best scenery anywhere in Europe, and comfortable walking shoes are something that you’ll thank yourself for bringing after a few hours on your feet exploring. Now Get Packing Once you’ve booked a river cruise in Italy you’ve got the very exciting job of packing for all the activities and cultural trips that you’ll be taking. If you’ve booked your tour with a reputable operator they will be able to give you guidance on the types of things you’ll be able to do once you hit the water.
