When factoring companies advertise their business it’s a strong indication that they need more clients. In reality advertising focuses on the wants of the factor and not on needs of the client. We don’t need to advertise because ALL our current clients are referrals from existing clients. A referral is the highest praise we can receive and a strong indication that trucking companies are more than comfortable with our service. Searching online you’ll be aware that many factoring companies for trucking companies use pay-per-click ads on Google. These are the ads displayed at the top and bottom of the general listings. These advertisers are paying $34.00 or more every time a prospect simply clicks on the listing. These ads work like an eBay auction, to be the top listing you have to outbid other competitors. The higher the cost per click the less website visitors for the budget. Of course Google is the big winner. These advertisers, although listed at the top, may not be the best suited for your needs. They are simply factoring companies that have paid the most to be the number one listing. Why do these factoring companies NEED to advertise? If they’re as good as claimed wouldn’t they get more and more referrals like we do. It seems that their customer base and service is not strong enough to support a referral business that’s why they MUST advertise. Not all inbound calls and emails generated by pay-per-click ads are in need of factoring. A lot of calls come from companies selling their services to the factoring company. Of course, the factoring company are paying for those clicks too. Over the years I have placed millions of dollars of advertising for companies in multiple industries, so I do believe in it as a form of communication. Factoring companies that advertise do not absorb the cost, it’s passed down by way of higher fees. IF we advertised we would have to do the same. Advertising doesn’t work for our entire team and especially clients in other ways. Let me explain. As mentioned advertising is expected to generate calls and emails from prospects and sales people in general. These calls and emails have to be answered which takes time that comes from somewhere. This time to respond detracts from servicing of existing clients. If your existing factoring company takes days to return a phone call, this could be the reason why. If you have ever been on hold with your bank, insurance or phone company for an hour you’ll understand exactly what is meant. Just to add insult to injury the recorded on hold message continually repeats “your call is important to us.” Really? In my opinion upper management are pushing for higher profits without considering increased workloads on existing staff which translates into poorer customer service. The number one goal of our entire team is to provide full service assistance to our existing clients. Any advertising would take time and resources that contradicts our ultimate goal. By providing ongoing customer service we don’t need to advertise as ALL our trucking company factoring clients are a direct result of referrals.
