Chasing the Powder: Tignes for Advanced Skiers

Travel & Tourism
If you’re a seasoned skier looking for the best thrills on the snow combined with an excellent choice of luxury catered ski chalets, Tignes is the resort for you. Thanks to its coveted location in the corner of the Alps, you’re pretty much guaranteed snow cover all year round, which makes it the perfect last-minute trip destination. The resort itself is made up of five villages, each with its own unique attractions. You’ll have the choice of partying the night away at one of the many apres ski bars, soothing your muscles at a spa, or dining out at one of the wonderful restaurants. Better yet, it boasts over 300km of terrain and 150 different pistes, which means there is something for everyone. However, this region of the Alps is renowned for its top-quality intermediate and advanced courses, with 46 red and 25 black runs to choose from. So whether you’re an advanced skier looking to chase the thrills further or an intermediate wanting to level up, once you’ve booked your catered ski chalets, Tignes is waiting for you. Now let’s introduce you to some of our favourite locations for advanced powderhounds. Toviere, Les Brévières

Starting with one of the wilder runs, this route is ungroomed and you’ll make your way from Tignes le Lac up to Paquerettes for a thrilling ride back down. If you’re looking for something to wake up the senses, you can zoom down Trolles Piste H at the top of Tommeuses, which is a wide, steep black run that’s sure to give you a good blast of that mountain air.

For a real challenge, why not try out the most demanding run in the resort? Les Brévières is full of moguls, but don’t worry, if it proves too tricky there is an escape route on Échappatoire and Pavot

Solaise

As well as having some first-class catered ski chalets, Tignes is known for its incredible views. The best place to take in the scenery is at Val Claret, the highest village in the region. Here you’ll have a variety of red runs to choose from, which start from the Grande Motte glacier – the views are definitely worth skiing the route more than once. Try to arrive in the morning, when things are quieter, and you’ll have the runs mostly to yourself.

For something more challenging, you could head to the naturide Guerlain Chicherit. Here you’ll find some difficult moguls as well as the black Pramecou, which has plenty of steep descents.

Le Fornet

This route has some of the best snow conditions, which means that experienced powder hunters should cover it quite quickly. But it’s still worth it! Just catch the free bus from Val d’Isère centre to Le Fornet and then it’s just a short cable ride to the base of the glacier. If you’re looking for something off-piste, try the Forêt, which is a black run through the trees. There are also lots of opportunities for getting off the beaten track around the edges of Le Fornet.

As you can see, the Alps' favourite resort boasts more than just fancy bars and catered ski chalets. Tignes is a thrill-seeker’s paradise with a whole range of exhilarating skiing opportunities to choose from.
