Designer Glasses: Not Always Just for Seeing!

Fashion & Cosmetics

Many of us wear glasses these days, and it’s becoming a widely accepted fact that, as well as being highly functional pieces of equipment, designer glasses are also a fashion statement. While it might be that most of us put an emphasis on how well they help us to see, it’s undeniable that more and more of us are being influenced by a wave of people who popularise certain frame-styles and make them part of our culture.

There are numerous design houses out there, from Tom Ford to Lindberg, offering a bespoke product that meets the needs of high-end clients as well as being appealing to the general public. These designer glasses often incorporate the most cutting-edge elements of technology, as well as boasting a superior design and quality build. It’s no wonder celebrities, artists and other public figures are making eyewear part of their iconic looks.

Below we’ve outlined a few stars and how they’ve made their frames work for them.

Elton John

Few names are as synonymous with unique and idiosyncratic style as Elton John. The musician and singer has been on the scene for many years, and his looks are almost as iconic as his music. Perhaps the most well-known aspect of his look is his thick rimmed glasses. They work as an accessory just as well as any high-end earrings or clothing, making him stand out in a bold way while remaining sophisticated and elegant. As well as thick rimmed glasses, he is also known for more flamboyant and eccentric frames – matching them up with outfits like you would do necklaces or shoes.

Zooey Deschanel

The actress Zooey Deschanel is perhaps best known for her talents on the screen, but she’s also a style icon whose glasses form the basis of her look. Her thick, rectangular designer glasses prove to be in perfect harmony with her face and they set her apart in many roles as being both affable and chic. From TV shows to major Hollywood films, her eyewear has become inseparable from the rest of her public image.

John Lennon

Just bringing up the late Beatle’s name will conjure a few images, many of which will feature his trademark round frames. At the time this choice was controversial for its association with cheapness and bland utilitarianism. But Lennon’s capture of this style proved to be so successful that modern wearers of this look will often refer to the style by his name. Prior to his adoption of them they were mostly associated with grandparents, but they soon became the epitome of hippy cool and have since been worn by anyone looking for an edge.

A Glow Up

While not everyone has a stylist and the public image requirements of movie stars and singers, we’re all realistically likely to benefit from investing in designer glasses. Not only will they last longer, fit better and be more comfortable, they also lend themselves to our own unique styling and face type. From the office to the restaurant, making a statement about who you are has never been easier than with exquisitely crafted and engineered frames. It’s best to make your way to your local optician that specialises in designer glasses as their expertise and knowledge will enable you to get the perfect pair.
