XRF Testing For Lead Is Efficient And Accurate

With the increasing rise of known toxins, it's hard to keep everyone safe from the dangers lurking all around this world. It seems as if every couple of days, the local news is reporting on some instance of excessive levels of harmful metals, in around where loved ones work, go to school and play.

It's bad to enough to learn that the environment you lived and grew up in was dangerously toxic according to what scientists know now. It's even worse to know that you could be preventing future generations from the same complications.

But in most cases, you don't even know where to begin or what to even do about it should you suspect something is wrong. There's enough worry in this world without the fear of your child being exposed to lead in something as minute as their toys. And the thought that something you bought, to get your kid a bit of happiness, could actually be hurting them is unbearable.

Technologies from the past were often inefficient. Not only were they costly, but they took weeks to complete. Lab fees were ridiculous. And sometimes when they came back, they were vague at best or not even correct. And the worst part was the excruciating wait to even get a straight answer in the first place.

Today though, with the great strides in technological advances, there are ways to get lead testing done fast and even affordably. XRF testing is not only extremely quick, but amazingly accurate. With this method, there's no lab testing involved. It's simply a matter of a bit of field work.

XRF stands for X-Ray Fluorescence. It's the result of what happens to an object when it has been exposed to high energy X-rays, or what are known as gamma rays. It is the phenomenon that occurs as higher exposure to radiation results in the re-emission of lower radiation.

XRF testing is a commonly used technique to measure chemical analysis. It is of particular use on metals, and is ideal for testing lead. Not only can it be done without taking large samples, but it's relatively harmless.

XRF is extremely fast, especially when compared to the time consuming task of taking a sample to a lab for analysis. In most instances it can be completed in as little as two minutes. In some instances, such as in tests for lower levels or trace results, it can take up to 10 minutes. It's a matter of efficiency depending on the individual circumstances of the case. The cost of such a procedure is about equal to that of lab sampling involving a turnaround of two weeks.

With XRF, two weeks turns into two minutes. And XRF testing is less invasive. Since much smaller samples are required, it eliminates the need of the often destructive amounts taken for laboratory procedures. Only the contaminated section will need removing. And with the on-the-job methods, the person who requested the investigation will be right there to guide and work with the research specialist to avoid unnecessary steps.

Are you worried about giving your child toys contaminated with lead? XRF testing is fast, relatively harmless, less invasive and could save your family's health. If you're looking for solutions to address your lead based concerns, check it out at
