Spy Gadgets and Gizmos for Kids!

Ezine,Family & Parenting,Recreation & Leisure
He is the veritable investigator. He is a detective. He probes into the activities that will unlock the clues to the unanswered mysteries of the unexplained. His planning is meticulous. It is the stuff of a Sherlock Holmes novel, sans the pipe. It is cloak and dagger stuff. It’s top secret in fact. He has his suspicions but has no evidence to back it up. He lays in wait, excited beyond description. The scene unfolds and he harvests the material he needs.

The mystery of the missing cookies has been solved! And he has it all recorded. He takes his spy pen out of his pocket and stops the recording. He has what he needs – now all that’s left is for him is to showcase to mom that he was not the culprit after all. It’s in full color, full screen. Their African Grey parrot Harry, with absolute dexterity flips off the lid of the cookie jar, reaches in with his beak and begins to eat the oatmeal cookie with relish. Mom laughingly shakes her head in disbelief her cookie culprit has been identified at last. Mystery solved thanks to Tom and his spy gadgets.

It is prevalent in modern day society that our children, (and adults too), spend much of their time hooked on the latest video games, PlayStation consoles, watching commercial movies and basically being catered to and spoon fed just to keep them occupied. These routes are simply such good babysitters. Gone are the days of role play and sensory integration. Children have become so sedentary and underactive that it has become an epidemic of large proportion.

It is a fact that today’s children require technological stimulation far more than generations of old did. It seems to be in their genetic make-up nowadays. If you want to know how your latest gizmo or gadget works and you can’t figure it out just ask your kids and you’ll be up and running in no time!

It is, however, unfortunate that childhood facets are missing from our children’s lives that we took for given in our childhood. Role play, story-telling and imagination that stem from the child themselves and are enacted by them are sorely lacking. It is for this reason that spy gadgets and gizmos are an exciting addition to any child’s collection. Apart from stimulating and engaging children technologically, they open up a world of possibility, fantasy and interactive play on a good old-fashioned level.

Let’s stimulate our children in ways they’re not stimulated in by other means. Let’s get our children to make up their own intrigues and stories. Let’s facilitate children being children even in our so advanced society today. These are stimulants our children should never tire of – no matter how old they are.
