Drug Rehabilitation Psychologists evaluate and assist people struggling with drug or alcohol abuse to come out of their cocoon and live a normal life. Rehabilitation Psychologists help people to cope with conditions such as, emotional problems, chronic health problems, cognitive issues, developmental disabilities and psychosocial problems irrespective of whether they develop such conditions or are born with any disability. Rehabilitation Psychology is the study of entire biological, social, psychological, environmental and political factors affecting a person directly or indirectly . A rehabilitation psychologist is usually a doctorate degree holder. It takes anywhere between 5 to 7 years for a doctorate degree to be earned. A graduate student is required to conduct and defend original research and those who show interest in clinical work further need to complete one year internship. After getting a doctorate degree the aspiring rehabilitation psychologists undergo intensive training before they take to this job as professionals. However, the rehabilitation psychologists need to satisfy the state licensing requirements before they become eligible to practice as professionals. A rehabilitation psychologist’s job include working with people and helping them with addiction, psychological health problems and struggle against sensory. They also specialize in the link between sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, gender and mental health. Drug Rehabilitation Psychologists provide sufficient help and support to the troubled patient so that they are able to adapt to new situation, find enough support network and assistance and give that new dimension to their lives and lead a life less complicated. It’s the rehabilitation psychologist’s job to organize and manage rehabilitation programs, group therapy sessions, public education programs etc. Job prospects of a rehabilitation psychologist are excellent and it's been predicted to surge at 15% over the next few years. Recently career prospects for rehabilitation psychologists have increased and an improvement in the medical technology and higher life expectancy rate has been directly attributed to it. A qualified rehabilitation psychologist may find himself placed at health clinics, acute care hospitals, hospitals, physical therapy centers, long term care facilities and drug rehabilitation centers. As the person grows in experience and knowledge he may land himself in even more lucrative job opportunities in a few years time. Many other psychologists also team up with other professionals and contribute to development of every area of society. They may team up with professionals such as lawyers, physicians, policy makers, school personnel, managers, computer experts etc. So, a clinical psychologist can also be found at schools, court rooms, corporate offices, prisons etc other than the usual places like, hospitals and health centers. At drug rehabilitation centers the psychologist plays an important role in the process of recovery of the affected patient. The psychologist lends his support to the drug addict so that he successfully completes the detoxification process, counsels him and provides aftercare like regular check-ups so that the patient may be able to lead a normal and healthy life again.
