Air Products’ Port Arthur, TX carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project is among three selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE; Washington) to go forward with additional funding. Air Products will partner with Denbury Onshore LLC to capture and sequester more than 1 million tons/year of CO2 from existing steam-ethane reformers at the Port Arthur facility. Startup is slated for November 2012. A connecting pipeline will deliver the CO2 to Denbury’s existing pipeline and then sequestered via use for enhanced oil recovery at the West Hastings oil field. DOE’s funding will be $253 million, although officials did not say how much the project would receive in matching private funds. Phase two of the project includes $612 million from DOE and $368 million in private matching funds.
The Air Products project was one of 12 selected in October 2009 for grants under the first round of funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act earmarked for CCS projects. Air Products says in the first round it received $900,000 from the DOE to carry out the engineering study and project plan.
The other two CCS projects DOEhas selected to go forward are one by Archer Daniel Midland to capture 1 million tons/year of C02 from an ethanol plant in Decatur, IL that will be sequestered at Mt. Simon Sandstone by August 2012, and one by Leucadia Energy (Lake Charles, LA) to sequester 4.5 million tons/year of CO2 from a methanol plant in Lake Charles, LA. The CO2 will be sequestered fro use in enhanced oil recovery beginning in April 2014.Air products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe fundingAir products ccs project selected for phase ii doe funding I am an expert from Home Appliances, usually analyzes all kind of industries situation, such as pure source water filters , cuisinart coffee water filter.
