Discovery Times Square advertises itself as ‘more than a museum,’ and their new ‘Spy: The The Secret World of Espionage’ interactive show certainly lives up to that billing. Opened in May 2012, the exhibition offers a first-ever glimpse of treasures from the collection of H. Keith Mellon. An international authority on spy technology, Mellon is a renowned author and historian, and in liaison with Discoery Times Square offers up a trove of material collected over the years from the CIA and FBI. Its a great way to spend the day for visitors looking for things to do in New York. And for those with children, it is an exciting, informative and interactive experience where you can role play as James Bond! Some of the fun activities for wannabe spies include testing your spy skills by navigating through an actual laser field, creating your own disguise and altering your voice. For history buffs, there is a chance to see how spy technology has evolved over the last hundred years. Discovery Times Square, in the heart of the city, is an ideal experience for New York tourists. Both rare and epic events are ‘brought to life’ in this most unique of New York museums. Once the home of the New York Times printing press, it has hosted exhibitions on the Dead Sea scrolls, Pompeii, Harry Potter, and the Titanic. Another current exhibition hosted at Discovery Times Square is the Terracotta Warriors. Coming all the way from China, these six feet tall terracotta warriors are over two thousand years old, and depict the armies of the Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Built as art for his funeral, they were painstakingly made to protect the Emperor in the afterlife, and originally counted 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses. Many New York tours make a stop at Times Square, so until August this year why not stop off at Discovery and experience over two hundred of these ancient, timeless artefacts as a great way to round of your visit to New York?
