What is a learning difficulty developmental delay? some parents may realize their kid has a specific condition, others, might have only been told their son has a developmental delay, or in some cases they may never receive a prognosis at all. There is different types of learning disability, which can be severe moderate or mild. In Most people a learning disability is for life. Someone with a learning difficulty may have problems understanding or using spoken or writen language, and might need additional support to compleate some everyday things. It is sometimes problematic to diagnose a mild learning disability as the child will normally mix well with others and will be able to complete some of the tasks presented to them. Although, they may need help in other areas of their life such as organization or filling out complex forms. Our child was four months old before we knew he wasn’t as responsive as his cozen of similar age who had been. The health visitor assured us there was no need to worry, but by seven months I expressed my concerns to my GP. Deep down I knew there was something wrong with my baby. For those with a moderate learning disability or profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), more care and support is required to help with areas such as mobility, personal care and communication. For any parent, the greatest concern will be your child's wellbeing and their future. As a parent, you can help your child by encouraging their strengths and getting the right support to help them overcome the things they find difficult, we found happy days publishing had some very handy work books and advise which helped us along. Every child is an individual with their own specific needs, but with the right support children with a learning disability can succeed in school and in life.
