I admit, it brings out the kid in me. Halloween is one of those holidays that takes you back to a simple time where even the mere thought of candy could send you into a frenzy. Now, though, I have tired a bit of the traditional bags of candy sticks, chocolate bars, and sugary bits. What excites me now, is the thought of a different kind of sweet treat.
Bowls and bags full of candy are the stuff of childhood days. It was a time when cavities, calories, and even taste weren't the issue. It was all about that sweet, sugary rush. We never had candy in the house until Halloween. Honestly, it didn't last for long after that, either. So perhaps it was also about having a bit of the 'taboo'.
But it is time to move on.
Now it comes down to keeping the “sweet” tradition alive, but with a twist. I like to think I have evolved from eagerly unwrapping a candy stick, only to have it gone in an instant and perhaps be left with a broken tooth, or a slow-growing cavity. I like to think a bit of time and effort is the path I am ready to take.
