5 Tips on How To Pass the Police Officer Agility Test |
Agility is defined as the ability to rapidly respond to change. It involves quick and effective change in the position or direction of the body as fast as possible. This is very crucial when applying for the position as police officer as this could hold the line between life and death.
The agility test for police officers involves many physical activities. The main purpose of conducting such a test is to ensure that the future police officers would be able to catch up with the hustle and bustle nature of the job. However, this test is not standardized across all the police departments in the US. Every department can decide on the components of the agility test, depending on the perceived need for the department. The term agility test is not a universal term as well since some departments call this test physical agility test, the physical performance test, or the fitness test. So how do you pass a police officer agility test?
The 5 tips
First, know your department. As I have mentioned, agility test requirements may vary from one department to another so you must be able to determine which components are key for your department. This will help you prepare better for the big test day.
Second, take it upon yourself to train rigorously before applying. There is nothing better than a physically capable and ready body since you would be tested for fitness and physical abilities. Test your “strength, endurance, speed and flexibility” through training. This is important because
Third, run. Go as fast as you can, as far as you can, and as often as you can because you will be tested for your speed in running. Most departments would instruct applicants to perform a 1.5-mile run. Running is an act of discipline so this is important because real-life police work involves chasing after people, sometimes for very long distances.
Fourth, reinforce your upper and lower body strength. Yes, the physical ability will be tested when taking the police officer agility test. Upper body strength can be improved through weightlifting, sit-ups, push-ups, and bench pressing while lower body strength can be improved through squats, lunges, leg raises, and so on,
Fifth and last, it wouldn’t hurt to have you checked-up by a doctor in case the test would pose some health issues. Know yourself before venturing into a serious physically draining activity.
The police officer test on agility is not a component to be taken lightly. Note everyone manages to pass the agility test, but those that pass are well-applauded for their physical consciousness. What really matters is that you prepare way ahead of time.
