Personality Disorders You Might Have

Health,Self Improvement,Research
Do you think that you are an unique snowflake? We'd hate to burst your bubble but you're probably not. All that you are is a reflection of what your childhood was like and the lifestyle you lead. This is your life in one sentence. And you are probably suffering from some sort of personality disorder. After all, mental problems are the most common health issues people have these days. Not heart disease, not asthma, not allergies – mental disorders. That's right, you're probably nuts. Let's take a look at some of the personality disorders you might have! And hey, don't be alarmed just yet. If you are able to sit down and read quietly for a few moments without doing something a crazy person would do then you're probably perfectly normal... probably.

1. Misophonia There are curtain sounds that we find extremely annoying like squeaking, scratching, or Justin Bieber singing. However, there are people who become enraged by generally inoffensive sounds. These sounds can come from people breathing, eating, coughing, sneezing, etc. While most people become mildly annoyed by sound that is being repeated excessively, those who suffer from misophonia will probably try to leave the place and even become violent. As it turns out, the hatred towards the source of the sound is even more severe when it is coming from a loved one or any other emotionally connected to the misophoniac. Can you imagine how such a person feels when attending a family diner? As a result of this condition, sufferers have many other social problems like having trouble dating or going out with friends.

2. Oppositional Defiant Disorder Why is there always somebody in your class or at work that just refuses to cooperate. Apparently, his goal in life is to fully reject all forms of authority in the most obnoxious way. This is the guy talks back whenever there is a task that needs to completed and questions every request. This is the guy who is always trying to fix things around here and will complain for every little injustice.

However, this may not be his fault and you should question whether you should make fun of the poor guy. The guy might have oppositional defiant disorder otherwise known as “stubborn jerk disorder”. Specialists describe this condition as a continuous pattern of defiant, hostile, and disobedient behaviour towards any form of authority. This behaviour goes far beyond usual childhood behaviour. What are the chances of you suffering from ODD? Well, nearly 20% of children worldwide are affected. A person has to continuously oppose any form of authority such a parent to be diagnosed with ODD.

3. Involuntary Expression Disorder Imagine the following. You are in your teenage years. Young, rebellious, no boring school will prevent you from having fun as much as possible. However, your dad finds out that you've been effectively skipping school for the last couple of weeks and starts to yell at you. Uh-oh, busted! And then you realize that you suppressing a smile. Then a chuckle. In just a few seconds you start to laugh uncontrollably even though you are in trouble. This might happen at a funeral or upon hearing some bad news. But don't beat yourself up about it, you probably just have involuntary emotional expression disorder.

And you are right, it is exactly what it sounds like. People affected by this condition are blessed with taking bad news very well. They have the opposite reaction of what is usually expected. However, this is a double edge and they might feel depressed when something good happens to them. But there being happy for someone else's misfortune is a different story. Who would have thought that there is a clinical name for being a major jerk? This condition is known as katagelasticism and specialists describe it as psychological condition where a person finds joy when laughing at others.

4. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

It is believed that obsessive-compulsive disorder is probably the most common mental disorder. It is as common as allergies, diabetes, and asthma. Sufferers are affected by intrusive thoughts and obsess with different ideas. Others feel compelled to act out different rituals or habits. Some are affected by both. They obsess with numbers, order of things, religious dilemmas, superstitions and even cleanliness. There was a case reported a few years ago of a person cleaning his bathroom with 7 different commercial detergents. The fumes coming from the cleaners mixed and exploded, effectively destroying the whole bathroom. Others wash their hands excessively to the point of ruining their skin. Some order professional cleaning services for their homes excessively from companies such as cleaners in Barnes .

OCD is categorized by an anxiety disorder and sufferers know that their behaviour is counterproductive but they can't seem to shake it off. There are a lot of options for OCD treatment but the most effective one remains exposure to the source of anxiety. For instance, if a person is a double-checker then he should start checking things only once and leave them be. Those who are afraid of filth should play football in the mud or something like that and see that nothing will happen to them.
