Wedding cards are important aspects in a wedding ceremony. It is the first call, the first representation of your wedding to people. So it is necessary that it be attractive and appealing to them. It should also reflect the theme of your wedding, if any. There are a wide range of techniques used to print wedding cards. To help you understand the different types of printing techniques involved and their possibilities and limitations, I have brought them together in this article. Take a look: • Flat printing: This method of printing can be used with almost any colour, except with silver or metallic gold. Flat ink won’t get the metallic look. In past times, flat printing used to be done in lithographic press while now it is performed on a commercial high quality press. Digitally printed cards allow a wealth of colours to be used and also allow a lot of flexibility in terms of design and can be produced at a low price as well. • Thermography (raised ink printing): This printing method used flat (wet) ink printing process initially, after which powder is applied to the wet ink. The wet ink is then heated which bubbles up to produce the raised print. This type of printing gives extra dimension and a greater degree of luxury. • Embossing/ debossing: This is not really a printing method, but a decorative method used in the production of wedding invitations. In this method, a metal plate is used to create an impression on the board, either raised or impregnated. No ink is used in the process. This method is often combined with foiled or flat printing to create a finished design. • Hot foil printing: This printing method produces an extra luxurious card as the foil in the card glistens and shimmers in light. However, this printing method involves high cost and a lot of time, hence ideal for mass produced cards. • Letter Press: This is an ancient method of printing in which wet ink is used with a large plate to press an image into a sheet. Cards produced with this type of printing method are very elegant and tactile. But they are expensive to produce and hence to buy. Besides cards produced by the above mentioned printing methods, there are the handmade cards and the calligraphy style cards. As the name suggests, handwritten cards are written by hand. They are not very appropriate for formal style wedding but will do well if the wedding is intended to be a small gathering with just family members and a few close friends. The calligraphy style wedding cards are produced by somebody who knows the art of writing. These cards have a more personal look, like it has been written by the very person who is distributing the cards. Another type of wedding cards is the contemporary wedding cards. Unlike most traditional wedding cards that are mostly printed on white or ivory paper, contemporary wedding card designs involve different colours and also decorations like flowers, picture of the wedded couple, etc. ====================================================================== Author Bio John Abelard is a renowned author.
