Hose is one of the critical components for any water work design. Depending on its application the type and material of the hose is selected. It is basically a hollow tube which is designed to transport fluids from one point to another. The simpler name for hoses is the pipe. But pipes are generally referred to the rigid tube while a hose is the term considered for the flexible ones. The hoses are cylindrical in shape and have a cross section which is circular. The common materials are PVC, polyurethane, polyethylene, nylon and natural or synthetic rubber. Special grade of polyethylene called the LDPE and LLDPE is commonly used in recent times. Materials like Teflon or PTFE, metals and stainless steel are also considered. Pharmaceutical industries require special care in choosing the hoses. Pharmaceutical hoses should be flexible and the process fluids that need to be transferred have different properties. The hoses should have special lining to satisfy the special needs of the pharmaceutical industry. The toughness, flexibility, high pressure resistance and the full vacuum resistance are some of the properties that are important for a pharmaceutical hose. Further the hose should be compatible with chemicals. Materials like PTFE are generally considered because of their resistance to chemicals. PTFE hoses are non contaminating and non reactive to the various types of fluids. The hoses should be easy to clean and the lining should be Non sticky.
