Have your or a family member been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer? This is a very troubling diagnosis, but thankfully science is working on more safe and effective diagnostics and treatments for this terrible disease. Prostate cancer is a serious disease that can have debilitating effects on the body including difficulty urinating, frequent urination especially at night, urinary incontinence, painful, burning urination or bowel movements, lower back pain, and blood in the urine, and worst of all the cancer can spread out through more vital organs in the body. A new urine test for the PCA3 (prostate cancer gene 3) has recently proven to be a safer and more effective test then it's predecessor PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood-panel test. This test specifically targets PCA3 instead of the broad spectrum before it, to minimize unnecessary detection of other Prostate conditions such as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). Recent technologies have also created a newer biopsy and detection method, combining the power of MRI technology and Ultrasound technology, to define a better "map" of the prostate, to aid in the most complete and thorough detection of tumors and to determine their size, if they are benign or malignant, and the aggression/reproduction rates of the cancer cells themselves. Since the prostate is of variable size and location from patient to patient, these new technologies are needed as a better analysis of the disease is a requirement in medical science. If the cancer cells or tumors are isolated to the prostate and nowhere else in the body, that is good news, for if all other methods or destroying the cancer are ineffective, there is always the option for a newer, much safer prostate removal surgery. Dr. David Samadi has developed a new form of robotic prostate removal surgery aptly named the Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique (SMART) prostate removal surgery, that has a overall 85% recovery factor for all functions including urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction, this new surgery also yields a 97% cure success. Combined with minimally-invasive biopsy technology and preventative early-detection treatments and surgery, this is treatable, and even curable. Those that have been diagnosed should not lose faith and be very proactive with their doctor, friends and family about their treatment, there is always hope and with steady motivation and adjusting your risk factors for cancer by altering your diet, exercise routine, environment, cancer education, and determination to get healthy. The Prostate Cancer Research Institute is a charitable institution that is intended to improve the quality of men’s lives by supporting the research and disseminating information prostate cancer treatment. It also helps to create awareness and empowers patients, families and the medical community.
