Chevrolet launched its much awaited sedan Sail recently in the Indian car market, the sedan is a new entrant in the entry level sedan segment that comes with a very competitive price tag. Chevrolet Sail is available for sale at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakhs (ex-showroom price) which is very competitive as compared to the other cars in this segment. The Sail price ranges between Rs 4.99 lakhs to Rs Rs 7.52 lakhs, offered both in petrol and diesel variants, Sail is a strong competitor of Maruti Swift Dzire. Other rivals of Sail include Ford Classic, Tata Manza, Toyota Etios and Mahindra Verito. Chevrolet Sail is based on its hatchback just like Dzire which is also conceived on its hatchback version. Sail can accommodate five adults easily inside the cabin, it has dual tone interiors which is another similarity with the arch rival Swift Dzire. What gets Sail an edge over Dzire is the larger boot space which is around 370 litres as compared to Dzire’s 315 litre. Sail is proffered in four trims in each petrol and diesel guise. Chevrolet Sail base version is loaded with features like, front power window, anti-glare interior rear view mirror, air-conditioning and power steering. Chevrolet Sail Mileage numbers are extremely good, the petrol version delivers a high fuel economy of 18.2 kmpl while the diesel version proffers the best in class mileage of 22.1 kmpl. Petrol version is powered with a 1.2 litre SMARTECH engine with 86 PS and 113 Nm while the diesel engine is equipped with a 1.3 litre SMARTECH motor that generates 78 PS and 205 Nm. Features like lightweight aluminium alloy, DOHC valvetrain for better mileage, anti-friction properties, graphite coated skirts and lightweight pistons are present in the sedan. The interiors are extremely comfortable and are done in dual tone. There is ample headroom and legroom for passengers, storage space is also enough, entertainment system with Bluetooth for pairing upto five phones to stream audio. The sedan’s drivability has also been pitched with the Indian roads and driving conditions. Safety features that have been affixed in the sedan include 14 tires, ABS, EBD, three point structures that dissipates 80 per cent of the impact and airbags. Looking at the number of features offered the price of the sedan has been placed very smartly. This sure is going to give a push to the Sail’s initial sales as the company had expected. The entry level sedan segment might have few contenders right now but it is getting new entrants every now and then. If Chevrolet Sail succeeds in roping in good monthly sales every month then it could help taking Chevrolet’s re-gain the lost glory in the Indian car market. The sedan has opened to a good response from the customers and hopefully this number will multiply in the future.
