Sparkling wines as the name suggests are wines that sparkle because of the significant levels of carbon dioxide making it look bubbly. It is typically sweeter and lighter than red and white wines, but some are known to have higher alcohol levels. Because of its bubbly appearance, sparkling wines are a top choice in parties and festivities. Wines can vary in flavor and taste, depending on the process of fermentation, the soil composition, and climate in the region. Even Australian Shiraz can vary from the South and North wine regions due to variety in climate and wine production process. Most experts would recommend a wine based on its region. For example, the Cabernet Sauvignons in France and South America are popular. The Merlot wines of California in the US are also preferred wines. It really depends on the palate and the winemaker, too. Others prefer a stronger variety over sweet varietals. Even some owe it to age and brand.
