Titanium is an element which is light on one hand and is also lustrous, strong, corrosion-resistant transition metal which has silver or white colour when pure. It was discovered in Great Britain in the year 1791 by William Gregor and the name was given by Martin Heinrich Klaproth. Titanium minerals are quite common and easily found. One of the best properties of Titanium is that it can be alloyed with many elements, the most notable being aluminium, molybdenum, iron and vanadium to produce tough and trustworthy light weight alloys for aerospace used in missiles, jet engines, and spacecraft. It is also used in automotive, industrial process, agricultural food, dental instrument etc. The superior strength, durability and light weight when compared to other metals used at various places like firearm and it also advances in metalworking techniques, the use of titanium is increasing day by day on a large scale. Titanium sheet and titanium plate are of various types such as grades 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 etc. Titanium is readily available from various commercial sources so it doesn't require any individual preparation in the laboratory for extracting. It has strength comparable to steel and almost doubles in strength when compared to aluminium. Since titanium is much lighter than steel (almost half the weight) and 60% more in weight in comparison to aluminium, Titanium sheet, and titanium bar and titanium plate are very much in demand. Its durability and light weight characteristic make it use at open places, since we are aware of the fact that titanium is resistant to corrosion by sea water and is used in rigging, propeller shafts and other parts of ships and boats which may be submerged in sea water, it is also used in numerous aerospace applications. The plates are available in standard sizes and in square, rectangular and also in circular shapes. Titanium sheets and Titanium Plate of different thicknesses may also range from 0.5mm to 100mm. Titanium sheets and titanium plates are found in a variety of applications of heat exchangers, corrosive-resistant equipment, textile machinery and sporting equipment. Titanium is used for manufacture of artificial pins, hips, in bone setting and also used in biological implants with help of Titanium Bar as it is biocompatible. Titanium does not react within the human body. Sheeta and coils such as 3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Z1, 6Al-4V ELI or Grade 23, Grade 12: which combines amazing strength at high temperatures with excellent weld ability and corrosion resistance. Titanium sheets ASTM B 265, AMS 4911, MIL-T-9046A AB-1 ETC are used for medical purpose. Titanium has properties that make it suitable for use in long lasting dental implants. The properties also make it useful for orthopaedic implant applications. Since titanium is non-ferromagnetic material, hence it is widely used in implants. This is because patients with such implants can be subjected to an MRI as and when required in the future which might be essential for an accurate diagnosis of their condition. Titanium is non-toxic even in large doses. Titanium bar is also used for the products where optimum strength and lesser weight is desirable it is of great utility in surgical instruments and crutches, and many more such products.
