Former Singapore Exchange (SGX) CEO Mr Hsieh Fu Hua has beenappointed as the new President of the National Council of SocialService (NCSS) Board by the Acting Minister for CommunityDevelopment, Youth and Sports, Mr Chan Chun Sing. Mr Hsieh will preside for the next two-year term, from August 1this year. NCSS is the umbrella body for about 400 member Voluntary WelfareOrganisations in Singapore. It provides leadership to nurture anddevelop the social service sector through enhancing thecapabilities of social service organisations and promotingstrategic partnerships for social services. Mr Hsieh, who has been in the financial industry for nearly fourdecades, was a champion for SGX's annual fund-raiser, now known asthe "Bull Charge". In 2004, the SGX organised the initial charity run, then known asthe "Bull Run", which rallied the support of SGX stakeholders andSingapore's financial industry to help charities in need, includingbeneficiaries under the care of Community Chest, the fund-raisingarm of NCSS. Since its inception, a total of $16 million has beenraised for various charitable causes. Apart from setting up BinjaiTree, a privately-run charity thatgives out grants to various organisations that help improve thelives of the disadvantaged, in 2009, he also helped establish twonew charities, namely Shared Services for Charites and CaregiverAlliance Limited. He will replace RADM (RET) Kwek Siew Jin, who will complete histerm as NCSS president on July 31. He first joined the NCSS Boardas Vice-President in 2004 and is currently serving his third termas President of NCSS Board. The number of social service programmes serving the needy has grownfrom 222 in Financial Year (FY) 2006 to 536 in FY2011 under hiswatch, and manpower capabilities initiatives and job opportunitiesin the social service sector have increased significantly. Mr Phillip Tan and Ms Jennie Chua have been re-appointed asVice-President to the NCSS Board and Chairman of Community Chestrespectively for the next two-year term (Aug 1, 2012 - July 31,2014).
