Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) pipe or most commonly known as ERW tube in the construction industry, is tubing that was formed using an electric welder. These types of tubes are usually made from steel. They are mostly used for various engineering purposes. They can be used as line pipes or scaffolds or fencing. Depending on the usage, they can be bought in various length, diameter and thickness. ERW process is usually used when making tubes with a high diameter. Process of making ERW tube The process of making ERW tube is considered the cheapest process in the industry. But although it is cheap, it does not compromise the durability of the tubes. It starts out as a thin flat sheet in various thickness. It is then rolled into a tube and the sides are welded together using an electric welder. Using this process, tubes can be in sizes up to 0.4 meter in diameter and from steels with around 0.3% carbon. Industries that use ERW tubes Many industries prefer ERW tube because it is believed to be less prone to corrosion and more effective in various temperatures compared to seamless pipes. That is why many industries prefer these types of pipes. Some of them includes the agricultural industry, pharmaceutical industry, and electrical industry. ERW tube can be used for sewerage systems and main waterways. It can help transport water even in low temperatures. It is also used as deep tube-wells, plant piping and in industrial water lines. Aside from water, it can also ideal as a pipe line for natural gas, LPG and non-toxic gas. If wondering what an ERW looks like, simply look for a motorcycle. The frames of motorcycles are usually from ERW tubing and DOM tubing. It is also used for small engines. ERW tube is a whole lot cheaper than DOM tubing and still does the job. The ERW pipe used in motorcycles is usually produced in a mild steel carbon range of about 1006 to 1008. When buying tubing, it is important to focus more on the grade of the material more than anything else because this will define whether the material will be effective. ERW tubing can be replaced once worn out but it usually takes several years before that even happens so the price is very much worth it.
