About SAS: Statistical analysis software is a data analysis tool which is used to analyze the data and store it in the form of statistical or as a visualization report file. When a clinical trial is started a huge amount of data is generated and that data is cleaned, validated, managed and stored in the databases using clinical data management tools. This data is extracted, analyzed and formed as a report file using SAS, which is then submitted to the FDA or other regulatory authorities for further approvals. Enhancer editor window features: Enhancer editor window is one the windows in SAS environment which allows programmers to write coding to retrieve data from a database or local system and manage the data into datasets by applying conditions, functions, statistics and generate the data into a standard report representation file. So for all these tasks editor window is required. This enhancer editor window enables the programmer to do different tasks in SAS environment such as: • Use colour coding to identify SAS program elements as well as HTML and XML document elements. Settings in colour coding can be saved in a colour scheme options. • View high level flow of SAS program or see each detailed statement by expanding or contracting sections of SAS procedures, DATA steps, and macros. • Shortcuts can be created by typing in text using abbreviations. • Open multiple views of a file. • Macros can be created that record and play back program editing commands by using the keyboard macro recorder. • Help can be accessed for the SAS language by placing the insertion point within the language element name and pressing F1. Overview of Enhancer Editor Window: The parts of the enhanced editor window are: Title bar, expanded code section, collapsed code section, Enhanced Editor insertion point position and margin. Title Bar: The title bar contains the Enhanced Editor icon and the name of the file. After the file name an asterisk (*) is present in the title bar which indicates that any changes to the file have not been saved. Expanded code section: An expanded code section displays all of the code within the code section. It is indicated in the margin by the minus sign (-). Collapsed code section: A collapsed code section displays only the signature line of code (the line of code that contains the keyword). It is indicated in the margin by the plus sign (+). Enhanced editor insertion point position: Part of the main SAS window, the Enhanced Editor insertion point position displays the insertion point line and column position. Margin: Programmers can use the margin which is present on the left side of the enhanced editor window for different tasks like selecting one or more lines of text in the editor window, expand or collapse code sections, How to Save Files in editor window: To save the contents of a code that has been written in enhanced editor window, click the Save toolbar button (diskette icon). If the file is to be saved for the first time, the “Save As” dialog box opens for assigning name for the file. To save a file with new file name, flowing steps are followed like: Select file menu, in which click “save as” option, after clicking on save as option, select a folder in the “Save In” field, file name can be typed in the “File name” field; file type can also be selected in the save as type field. Clicking ok will save the file. Checking for Coding Errors: Enhancer editor helps programmers to assist in finding out coding errors within the editor window. It helps in defining colour coding for program elements, different colours for quoted strings and also for comments. Undefined or misspelled keywords: when enhancer editor comes across a recognized keyword, then the keyword changes to define colour. Misspelled or undefined keywords are defined in red colour. Unmatched quoted strings: Text following a quotation mark remains the same colour until the string is closed with a matching quotation mark. Unmatched comments: when comments are to be specified for a program, the complete comment should be in opening comment symbol (/*), and the comment is closed with closing comment symbol (*/). Conclusion: Enhancer editor provides many options and different colour enhancements for SAS programming and coding that are done in SAS editor window. Clinnovo is a clinical innovation company.
