Heading into this weekend's finals, Chinese gymnasts sit atop the leaderboard in 4 from the ten disciplines. First-year senior Yao Jinnan had a thriving international debut, posting the highest qualifying score on uneven bars (Shaposhnikova to quick Pak salto, piked Jaeger, double layout).
Yao also certified second on floor, behind teammate Tan Sixin (who's also producing her senior international debut at Cottbus) and fourth on beam.
On vault, Germany's Oksana Chusovitina recorded her country's only very first place qualifying score, ahead of Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber, who threw a handspring front 1.five layout (the exact same vault at present shown by her countrywoman Ariella Kaeslin, which includes a 6.three D-score). 2009 European vault champion Ekaterina Kurbatova placed third in qualifying.

Five to appear out for in finals:
World floor champion Eleftherios Kosmidis of Greece attempted some new combinations on his marquee event, but stepped out of bounds in qualifying and completed sixth in the finish on the day. If he hits his routine in finals, however, he should really challenge for the floor title.
Van Gelder, in spite of the drama surrounding his personal life and his status on the Dutch team, continues to be an incredibly competant man on rings. He proved it by winning the title at final year's Ghent Planet Cup, and could do exactly the same here.
2010 European men's vault champion Tomi Tuuha of Finland may also be in the vault final. Although not by far the most higher profile competitor, Tuuha's clean form and penchant for landing on his feet and not moving a great deal need to stand him in fantastic stead in finals.
Germany's Philipp Boy, who hails from Cottbus, had some minor problems in instruction hindered his preparation for this meet, as noted within the rapid hits. But Boy has certified for finals on higher bar and pommel horse, and could be the first reserve on parallel bars. Nguyen didn't compete on floor, his best event, in qualifications, but did make the finals on parallel bars, where he has been identified to dismount using a full-twisting double back.
