Fort Pierce is a city in and the county seat of St. Lucie County, Florida, United States.[3] It is also known as the Sunrise City, sister to San Francisco, California, the Sunset City. The Heathcote Botanical Gardens 3.5 acres (1.4 hectares) are subtropical botanical gardens located at 210 Savannah Road, Fort Pierce, Florida, USA. The site began as the commercial nursery of landscape architect, Molly Crimmons, and her husband, Jim. The Gardens were established in 1985 when the site was purchased by local citizens with contributions from the City of Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, the State of Florida and Friends of Heathcote Botanical Gardens. They currently include a Japanese garden, Reflection Garden, HerbGarden, Rainforest Display, Native Plants Garden, and a Palm and Cycad Walk. Bonsai collections range from a 25 year-oldbougainvillea to assorted Ficus species. Its plants include: bamboo, a banyan tree, bromeliads, Clerodendrums, Clusia rosea, Coccoloba uvifera, Codiaeum sp., crotons,Encephalartos gratus, orchids, Pandanus utilis, Petrea volubilis, philodendrons, pineapple, Podocarpus gracilior, Tillandsias, and Zamiapumila. The Boston House (also known as Cresthaven) is an historic building in downtownFort Pierce, Florida. It is located at 239 South Indian River Drive. On April 11, 1985, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is recognized for its unique architecture of Neo-classical and Georgian mixture. It is also recognized for its part in local history. On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter placed the building on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places as Cresthaven/Boston House. Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University, also commonly referred to as HBOI or HBOI at FAU, is a non-profit oceanographic institution operated byFlorida Atlantic University in Fort Pierce, Florida, USA.
