Tie Wraps: A Cost-Effective Way of Organizing Your Cables

Organizing
Unorganized wires make your workspace look messy and more prone to more accidents. Using tie wraps is an effective way to bundle up cable wires and keep your employees out of harm.

Disorganized wires and cables aren’t just unsightly, but it can also be a potential hazard if you have children running around at home. Leaving the wires and cables out in the open also increases the risks of damaging them. This is why it’s important to organize all the electrical cables in your home. Cable wraps are types of fasteners that you can use to bundle together cables and wires. Tie wraps are thin, nylon cables that have triangular teeth along each side. The teeth along the nylon tie wrap catch the flexible pawl when tightened around a bunch of wires and holds in tightly in place. You can buy cable ties and wraps in any hardware store close to your home.

Cable Wraps

It is advisable to bind long stretches of exposed wire with cable wraps, as this will prevent damages and accidents. These wraps generally not only bind cable wiring together, but also offer a better level of protection to the wires by covering them completely. Although these wraps require more time for installation when compared to a tie wrap, they are still relatively easy to install. Unlike tie wraps, the cable wraps that cover longer sections of cable normally can be removed. Newer models of wraps often have a zip that run along the side to allow easier and faster installation and removal.

Cable Ties

There are many kinds of cable ties, not just the nylon ties. Nylon ties, however, contain carbon black. This allows the cables to be ultraviolet resistant, making it ideal for outdoor installation and use. The food industry usually uses the blue tie wrap. These wraps contain a certain additive of metal that is detectable by industrial grade metal detectors. Environments rich in radiation have cable ties that have Tefzel (ETFE) in them. The red cables used as plenum cables, on the other hand, have Halar (ECTFE) in them.

Stainless steel cable ties are fire resistant. Cable ties have other applications other than organizing wires and cables. You can also use them to secure hubcaps to moving vehicles, and you can even use it as handcuffs. Cable ties come in different sizes to hold a varying number of wires and cables.

Tie wraps are also known as cable ties and zip ties. Manufacturers created these ties for single use, and users cannot open them easily by freeing the pawl from the teeth. They can only loosen the wires by cutting the nylon ties. Some types of cable ties, however, can be loosened by pressing a tab to release the ratchet. Repeated use of the same cable ties can weaken the tie.

Other alternatives to bundle together wire cables include the use of cable lacing, Velcro hook, loose strips, hooks designed for conveyor belts, buckle clips made of metal, and more. Cable ties, however, are one of the most cost-effective means you can use to secure and tie together a large number of wires. When installed properly, these materials make it exceptionally easy to access and maintain sections of the wiring.
