Stormwater is water that originates during precipitation events. It may also be used to apply to water that originates with snowmelt that enters the stormwater system. Stormwater that does not soak into the ground becomes surface runoff, which either flows directly into surface waterways or is channeled into storm sewers, which eventually discharge to surface waters. Stormwater is of concern for two main issues: one related to the volume and timing of runoff water and the other related to potential contaminants that the water is carrying, i.e. water pollution. A stormwater drain or drainage well system is designed to drain excess rain and ground water from paved streets, parking lots, sidewalks, and roofs. Storm drains vary in design from small residential dry wells to large municipal systems. They are fed by street gutters on most motorways, freeways and other busy roads, as well as towns in areas which experience heavy rainfall, flooding and coastal towns which experience regular storms. Many storm drainage systems are designed to drain the storm water, untreated, into rivers or streams. PJ Wright & Associates have extensive experience in Stormwater Drainage Design, and over the last 30 + years have provided effective design solutions for stormwater management for individual projects. Our designer are all conversant with the Stormwater Management Policy for Western Australia and can provide many options for treatment and disposal of Stormwater runoff. Options for Rain Water Harvesting and the reuse of stormwater can be discussed with senior staff at the concept design stage to ensure the most effective system can be provided the client.
