Sleep deprivation is the major cause that leads to uncontrolled weight gain. Lack of sleep will cause to drowsy while performing some important task, travelling, or at work. Sleeping late at night will certainly make you get up late and thus one skips their morning walk or exercises. Lack of sleeping will probably make you sleep any time during a day due to continues yawning or drowsiness. This results in bad body posture affecting the waistline and other body parts, while affecting your health greatly.

On the other hand your work gets affected to a great amount due to low energy that contributes to lack of sleep and hunger. This makes you to eat snacks, fast food stuffs, have a cup of tea, coffee and other comfort foods. This is also mentioned in one of the study done by a well-known PhD, Susan Zafarlotfi, clinical director at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.

Not getting enough sleep is common and one feels to be proud. In fact we pay a price for going to bed late and getting up early as is revealed by MD director named Mark Mahowald. In another study, it was also revealed that kids too are affected with less sleep which makes them overloaded with extra weight.

Sleeping for a lesser duration than required has a great influence on the hormone levels namely Leptin and ghrelin. Lack of sleep increases the level of ghrelin, a kind of hormone that passes the signals of craving for food. These hormones carry the main function of weight gain and weight loss. Ghrelin and Leptin is the key hormone that regulates and monitor the feelings of fullness and hunger as is explained by PhD named Michael Breus from southeastern Lung Care in Atlanta, US. Ghrelin, for instance is produced in the gastro-intestinal tract, is known to stimulate appetite, whereas Leptin is produced in fat cells indicates that you are full through the signals passed on to brain.

Consequently, lesser amount of sleep will lead to dropping in the level of leptin, signaling that you are still not satisfied even after you eat. Moreover, the Level of ghrelin rises due to lack of sleep leading to stimulating your appetite which inclines you to eat more food. Both the combinations make you to overeat and this result in enormous weight gain. Subsequently, leptin and ghrelin, both brings about the correlation with the sleeping pattern with the level of body fat.

The experts also revealed that other factors like eating habit, environment, depression, stress, exercise, and many others also have a great influence on the production of leptin and ghrelin.
