Where are your snow tires sitting? Are they stacked in a corner of your garage, or possibly outside just covered with a tarp. Proper storage is important to keep your seasonal tires in good shape and ready for winter. If you haven't already, take care of any tire service to check for holes, condition of the rubber, or excessive tread wear before "putting them to bed."

Here are a few storage tips that will help keep your snow tires in good shape and ready for winter driving:
* If you have to store your tires outdoors, raise them off the ground and use water-proof covering with holes to prevent moisture build-up.
* It ideal to store them indoors in a cool and dark location and away from sources of heat, such as hot pipes or electric generators.
* Be sure the garage (or shed) floor is clean, free from grease, gasoline or other substances that could deteriorate the rubber.
* Face white sidewalls or lettering together to avoid black rubber stains on the white.
* If storing a vehicle with the tires still on, use blocks to remove the load off of the tires.
This Fall, before Winter hits, schedule a tire service to ensure the air pressure and the condition of the rubber is adequate for winter driving. Be sure to follow the same storage tips above for taking care of the set you're taking off. You will be glad you took the extra time, saving you money in unnecessary tire service, or even having to purchase replacement tires!
