Bad TV Reception? Maybe These Are The Culprits

Electronics
Having the TV conk out in the middle of a game or a favorite show is enough to make anyone see red. All that waiting and arming yourself with a load of snacks and drinks only to be greeted with a screen full of squiggling grey lines or worse, a blank screen. Luckily, not every reception problem needs extensive fixing and if you know the cause, you can make repairs quick.

Problems with satellite TV

Satellite televisions offer great reception and a host of channels at competitive subscriptions. But like all things man-made they’re susceptible to certain problems most of which have to do with dish alignment.

You may have noticed how the TV installation guy stresses on keeping the dish pointed to a fixed position. This position is what ensures it receives steady signals from satellites. The most common problem you’ll be faced with is a dish misalignment which causes the path to break. A simple shift in position can solve the problem but if the dish has fallen or broken, you need to call a satellite engineer.

If a building or tree is obstructing the signal path, chances are you’ll receive irregular reception or sometimes none at all. The same goes for scaffolding and even walls. So if a new house or building is being constructed and you suspect the signal may get affected, call the satellite engineer to install it somewhere else.

Problems with the LNB (the receiver on satellite TVs that allows reception) can cause lost channels and bad reception. Since it’s likely you won’t be able to find the cause of the fault, call the engineer after exhausting the other causes listed above. The same applies to the cable connecting the dish to the LNB.

Digital woes

Digital TV has made watching favorite shows a dream with its clear picture quality and numerous channels. The problems that arise are usually limited to set-top boxes and a simple resetting generally solves them.

Reception issues and lost channels are what you’ll likely face with a digital TV. They don’t happen often but when they do, reset using the reset button or turn off the power for about 15 seconds. If that doesn’t solve anything, retune the set-top box by following the instruction manual. If you’re still facing problems, call a repairman.

Analog TV troubles

Most of us have switched to digital or satellite TV but a few die-hard fans still love their old analogs. As dependable as they may be considering the old technology they’re built on, they suffer several problems.

Since analog televisions work using radio waves, radio interference or electrical discharge can disrupt reception. Electronic equipment like washing machines and hairdryers can affect signals so move them away from the TV room.

Similar to how satellite TVs must have the dish pointed in a fixed direction, analog TV aerials must also be positioned just so. Strong weather can cause shifting, breaks and components to come loose which will naturally affect reception. If this is case, call a TV repairman experienced in working with analog TVs.

Loss of reception that’s also being faced by neighbors will mostly likely be caused by maintenance work being carried out at the local transmitter. The only solution here is to wait till it’s repaired.

Now that you know the common causes of television problems, you can apply some of the solutions provided here. Remember, installation of aerials and dishes should only be done by a professional to avoid poor reception and lost channels.

Digital antenna installation ensures that any signal disturbances are automatically corrected. This will help you to receive the best quality picture. Visit this website for additional details.
