The beach of Playa Matorral in Fuerteventura is one of the few paradises on the Spanish coast that remain intact, and appears in all its glory despite being located in one of the destinations most demanded in the world. It is located in the southeast corner of the beautiful island of Fuerteventura, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO for its high environmental value. Its surroundings are simply an oasis of typical Canarian nature, crowned by the Jandia Nature Park, where you can find the Pico de Zarza, the highest point of the island, and neighbouring beaches like the famous beach Cofete, on the other side of the mountains. Playa del Matorral is known as Playa de Jandiaas it the most representative of the Jandia Peninsula. The lighthouse of Jandia divides the beach in 2 areas, with 2 differentiated environments: one is a nudist beach, more youthful and popular among couples that would like to enjoy the tranquility of this long sandy beach. To the south is a more familiar beach, next to the town of Morro Jable, with a variety of services, orientated towards families travelling with children. The beach is surrounded by vegetation and has one of the most striking protected natural areas of Fuerteventura, the Jandia salt marshes, where tidal action creates small ponds of water that dry under the sun and leaves remains of salt between the dunes. The whole beach environment has undergone a careful process of ecological recovery, with the removal of stones and sand that blocked the wind, as well as the replacement of plants that were not native to the area by native species that grew there before man arrived to the area. The public access to the beach, which for years were unrestricted, have been regulated in order to preserve the beauty that makes this beach unique. Near the area, there are hotels that have been especially designed to coexist with the natural environment and offers tourists an experience beyond a simple rest, as is the case of the Fuerteventura Palace Hotel, the resort with spa of Playa Gaviotas or the Playa Gaviotas Park hotel, all belonging to the Spanish hotel chain Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.
